Finding a way to organize a kitchen can be a challenge. As a
central hub of the home, it is where a lot of things often
get dumped. From mail to schoolwork to food to dishes, it
seems like there is always something that needs to be
cleaned up in the kitchen. so how do you get it all
organized and keep it organized?
Counters
If papers are a problem in your kitchen, creating a
system for how they are organized in your kitchen can help.
If there are several members of your family and everyone
brings stuff into the kitchen area, one kitchen organizing
resource that can help is a mailbox system. Give everyone in
your home a "mailbox" for their papers. Just be sure that
they empty it out on a regular basis. How often that is in
your home will depend on how long you can stand it! Another
thing that has helped in my home for keeping counters
cleaning is cleaning up after every meal. Everyone helps
with the dishes.
Pantry Organization
The pantry can also be a problem area. It can quickly
become an area where things simply get shoved in if you are
not careful. So what solutions are there for pantry
organization? Having specific areas for specific things can
help. If extras or bulk foods are house in your pantry, then
have an area dedicated just for those. If you store
appliances in your pantry, have a specific area just for
appliances. If it helps, label the different areas in you
pantry so that you (and everyone else in your house)
remembers where things belong.
Cupboards
How to organize your cupboards can also be a challenge.
When you take on the task to organize your kitchen, getting
your cupboards set up well is essential. Think about how you
use things and organize them accordingly. Having all baking
supplies organized in one area can help eliminate headaches.
So can having potholders next to the stove. Think about
where things make sense in your kitchen. Having all daily
use items like cups, plates, glasses, etc in one cupboard
can help too.
Drawers
Much of what applies to cupboards applies to drawers as
well. Have silverware, knives and any utensils that you
frequently use in one drawer. Be sure that the knives are
within easy distance of the cutting boards that you use them
with.
And as with any type of organizing,
be sure that you get rid of things when you take the time to
organize your kitchen. Expired food should certainly be
tossed as well as any items that no longer work or are a
hazard. Be sure to part with anything that you no longer
use.
