Effective time management goes hand in hand with effective
home organization.
You cannot get an organized home or keep it organized if you
don’t learn how to manage your time well. So what can you do
to learn this skill? Here are some effective time management
tips that can help.
Schedule Your Time
To manage your time well, you must schedule it effectively.
This means having a task list and scheduling time for each
task on the list. This works well for things you need to get
done at work and at home. Each day take the time to write
down everything that you need to get done and an approximate
amount of time that it will take to get those items done.
Then schedule those tasks into your day. But before you do,
take the time to prioritize them.
Prioritize Your Time
Assign each task on your list a level of priority. Some
people like to just number the tasks from most to least
important. Others like to assign a category like A, B, or C.
Try a few different methods to see which one works best for
you. After you have assigned everything a priority level,
schedule the tasks into your day. You may find that you have
more tasks than you do day to complete them. If this is the
case, transfer those tasks to the next day. This is one of
the most effective time management tips because it makes you
work on the most important things first rather than delaying
them.
Minimize Interruptions
Interruptions happen to everyone. Maybe someone stops by to
chat or you get a phone call. An important part of managing
your time effectively is to find ways to minimize these
types of interruptions. If someone stops by or calls you on
the phone to chat while you are in the middle of an
important project, ask if you can stop by or call them
later. Schedule a time with them so that you can plan for it
in your day. Avoid checking your email constantly and
disable any email pop-ups so you can concentrate more fully
on the task at hand.
It may take time to implement effective time management tips
like this. Keep trying every day. Work on making it part of
your daily routine so it starts to become second nature to
you.
